LOCAL

LOCAL is a sculpture made from "shop decks" that I have collected during my travels across the United States and Europe from 2010 to 2014. “Shop decks” are produced by independent skateboard stores to promote their business to their communities. Shops often collaborate with local artists who help make this a unique genre in and of itself.

I have taken an interest in visiting as many locally owned skateboard shops as possible when I travel and decided to organically arrange them into this sculpture.  From Oceanside to Charlotte, Austin to Amsterdam, Kansas City and everywhere in between; small independent skate stores fuel skate culture and creativity. I have enjoyed my spontaneous visits to each and every one of these establishments and my conversations with employees and owners along the way. To me, this is as much of a performance and assemblage piece as it is a sculpture.
